Reviews: West of Wisdom
The scenes and characters were so visual that when I finished the book I felt I had seen the movie.

I went to the web site http://edwincutler.tripod.com and
read the first chapter of West of Wisdom.
It was very interesting and extremely well written (though I have no
credentials as a literary critic). The description of the land and
harbor, the sailboat and the skiff, the smells and sounds, all
blended together so that I could see the scene in my mind's eye.
After the unfortunate meeting with the pirate and his violent demise
(we assume) I could feel the sense of gloom and despair that settled
upon the sailor. As he was taking his leave of what had been the
beautiful tranquil harbor, the description of the movement of the boat
through the waters, the narrow passage through the foaming waves
pounding over the rocks all of it seems to come from the pen of one
who has experienced the beauty of such a tropical paradise and been at
the helm of a sail boat slipping through the sea. In other words, I
could see and experience it in my own mind as I read it. I could
almost smell the hibiscus. Then there is the tantalizing mystery of
the small white hand reaching from the sinking seabag.

Mr. Cutler, I loved "West of Wisdom" and am torn between wanting to find you
in the Bahamas and wanting you to sit tight and finish "Island Life,"
so that I can enjoy it a much as I did "West of Wisdom".

Mr. Cutler, I am pleased to report that I read your book from end to end and found it
entertaining. I think you did a very good job with the plot, particularly
in that a lot of interesting things happened that were logically connected.
If anything, I believe the book could benefit by being somewhat longer so
that some of the changes in action might occur a little less suddenly.

Congratulations on West of Wisdom! I read it almost immediately --
and almost in one sitting. I had a good time reading it, and I
could see Mr. Cutler had a good time writing it. A lot of atmosphere, a
lot of characters, and a good story.

Although I realize it's necessary for the plot, the occasional
sex abuse in the story made me feel uncomfortable.
